http://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/ ... a-recorder French accident investigators have found the flight data recorder (FDR) of the Germanwings Airbus A320 that crashed on March 24 in the French Alps.
The breakthrough in the investigation was announced by French prosecutor Brice Robin, who is handling the pending criminal charges, with a short statement on April 2 confirming that
“the second black box has just been found by investigators at the site of the crash.”
Assuming the FDR is not too badly damaged,
the data it contains could provide essential information concerning the aircraft’s speed, altitude, acceleration and direction.
It can also confirm the timings of radio transmissions from the cockpit.

Authorities in France say the second flight recorder has been found from the wreckage of the Germanwings plane which crashed in the Alps last week.
The flight's voice recorder suggested co-pilot Andreas Lubitz deliberately caused the disaster, by locking the senior pilot out of the cockpit and putting the plane into a premature descent.
It is hoped the second recorder will provide more flight data, which may paint a clearer picture of what happened.
