Need some info/help (Palma de) Mallorca

Post by Triple R »

Dear all,

In about two weeks I will be on the island of Mallorca (Spain) and hope to spot some planes/helicopters (Mil./SAR/EMS/Gov./waterbombers/etc.). I’ve been looking around on the net, can’t find that much info :-(
Has somebody info on finding spots or locations, wrecks and relics are also welcome ;-)
I don’t know what the regulations are for spotting planes/photographing in Spain, same as in Greece (had a, NOT that nice encounter on Rhodos cuople of years ago).

Best regards, and thanks in advance Roger :respect:

Only been to Palma once, many moons ago and didn't have much chance of spotting then. So cannot help with spotting points, although I can remember reading about some good opportunities.

However, I can help you with the wrecks and relics. There isn't much unfortunately. There is a P68 on a roundabout on the westside of the airport, a Cv990 on the east side as well as a C212 and at Son Bonet a DC-3 and An-2 are preserved. That's all I know of.
This is a link to the P68 on the map on my site. Zoom out and you'll easily find the other three locations:

(trust me, the P68 is there, the image you see is just very old)

About in the middle off the airfield, there is a big military hangar, spotted a C.212 and a AB.205. At Harbor Porto pollenca you can find one or more waterbombers (there is a little base)

801 esc are active on daily base with their three SA330Js and two SAR Cn235100 VIGMAs D.4-05 and D.4-06. Further a SASEMAR AW139 is operating from Son San Juan as well as a EC135 EC-LTU from the Policia. At Porto de Pollenca s at least one CL415 based for firefighting duties in the summer period. Hope this helps.

You might be lucky. There is a seaplane meeting at Port de Pollenca 29/04 -02/06 including 2X CL-415's and smaller civil stuff. They should all be leaving saterdaymorning 02/05 to Murcia.

I was there last week for a few days. No problems spotting or with photography. A car is best to get to the best spots for photos or you can hire a bike in nearby C`an Pastilla. A few shots from last week at this link https://www.flickr.com/photos/gsairpics/
If you check out my albums you`ll see shots from previous visits & each shot has a small map showing where the picture was shot.
