The situation has improved a lot over the last 5+ years with the higher defense budget, concentration of the active units into bigger units and delivery of a lot of new aircraft.
Or it might be just like the old days when during the fly pasts the aircraft (especially the heavies) would make wide turns and pass the Western onlookers twice or even three times...
Nice parade, but unfortunately no An-22 this year !
Some questions:
- Who can help me with a good accessable location in Moscow to watch/photograph the flypast ?
- The helicopters and Su-25's (from last formation) are operating from Kubinka, the aircraft from the "70" formation are operating from Chkalovsky (?). More info known about operating bases for the rest of the fighters, transport and bomber aircraft and Yak-130's? . I have heard some Russian spotters had some "trouble" at Kubinka last week.

OK so now we know from where to spot the flypast, but is anyone from Scrambleland thinking of visiting Moscow for the weekend in question? There would appear to be loads of numbers available in a few museums, with some "over" (perhaps not "thru") the fence opportunities as well. я не говорю по-русски so if any of you seasoned travellers were around for company ....
That is for the parade coming of the Red Square and to see the flypast. I believe that if you want to have a longer and unobstructed view from the flypast you should be north west of the Red Square and on the east of the line of flying. Better if you have an hotel with a terraced roof.
Dress rehearsal is planned for 7th of May.
Although most aircraft will be the same it is possible that some of the larger aircraft will be other frames!Like Tu-95, Tu-160, Il-76 etc.
