Štít 72 exercise, Žatec AB, September 1972,
mass rapid takeoff of 36 Su-7 and 36 MiG-21 together. Interwals between takeoffs were cut down in rehersals to 15s with the Su-7's and to 10 s with MiG-21's, so in approximately 5 minutes airfield was empty.

Cool video!! Went to an airshow in Zatec in 1991 but the infrastructure does not look familiar (is my memory fading already??).

By the way, the base is gone now... Closed in the early or mid ninetees..

Ben, compare pics of taxiing and flying 23s.
On the ground, the fin under the tail has to be "retracted", as it would hit the ground. In the video, after getting airborne, it is extended.

The ventral fin folds away on the ground to prevent it from scratching the runway during take-off.

Geweldige beelden! Zie ik nou goed in dat tweede filmpje dat er eerst vanaf links een aantal MiG-21s omhoog komen, en dan meteen op dezelfde baan van rechts een aantal MiG-23s? Is wel efficiënt gebruik van je asfalt, maar enigszins risicovol....?
