KLu Farewell last Alouette3

Post by GerritsFinest »

The first aircraft picture I took with my own camera on the 12 of July 1965 (yes 50 years back) was the Alouette3 A-266 at the Ermelo Light Aircraft Strip (LAS). The second one was the L21B R-149 on the same day. So I have a feeling that this helicopter and myself were growing old at the same time! I never forget his jet-sound, I will miss it and many others as well.. Fortunately I had the possibility to make a lot of fun trips with it during my KLu-time. It was never a problem to fly in those days as long as there was a empty seat of course. Thats why I like to put to spotlight on the last four of them now:A-247, A-275, A-292 and A-301. Not fancy blue but ugly green to do their duty together with the army. We had many, in many colours, you liked them or just hated them (till it's gone)

Great pictures! Thanks for sharing them! The first time I flew was in an Alouette III, so I will miss them...

Only Chinooks and Bolkows for me as a passenger. So never Alouette ... But I will definitely miss those little bastards. We used them a lot in the 90's, for practicing our skills with Flycatcher and 40L70. And Stinger as well. I do love it...! Still!

Very well said Gerrit! :respect:

For me as a spotter they were boring........ another "Doris" consuming the batterypower of my scanner
During my time in the KLu though, I often enjoyed to hop on and see Soesterberg from the air :thumb:
It has been a love-hate relationship.......

+1!
The Alouette, like many other 'birds' was 'regular stuff' and therefore boring at the time.
But how I would love to see Alouttes, Bölkows, Friendships and many others back...................

Spaniel was mostly used for Beavers, who used also Bobtail and Popsey, other ALO3 callsigns were Ester, Kelly and the SAR Kitbag. It was hard for a beginning controller at Dutch Mil VFR position to learn and identify all those callsigns calling at the same time... not to forget all the Nato jets flying low level as well, now there is panic in Holland when jet sound is heard, lets say 'Sound of Freedom...'
