The Royal Navy Historic Flight’s Hawker Sea Fury crashed in front of stunned onlookers at the Royal Navy Air Day at RNAS Culdrose after experiencing difficulties as it came in to land.

The cheering crowd fell deathly silent as the plane skidded along the runway, eventually coming to a halt around 100 metres from where it hit the ground.

A spokesman said "There is no fire and no one has been hurt."

Sea Fury Restoration On Track

The Royal Navy pilot who narrowly avoided crashing a malfunctioning plane at the Culdrose airshow says it's fantastic to see it being restored.

Lt Cdr Chris Gotke received the Air Force Cross for his piloting skills, after the Sea Fury suffered catastrophic engine failure.
He made a forced landing in which the plane suffered significant damage.

Gotke has now visited the team of engineers who are painstakingly restoring the aircraft after the crash in July 2014.

Soon after the incident, it was transported to North Weald Airfield in Essex where a team of three are working on the plane. It's expected to fly in 2017.
