A pilot never "asks" for a go around... He just does, based on the situation.

Intended then, initiated, started, whatever...

2) plane had already problems with landing gear before landing, declared emergency and crash landed

AFAIK the approach was normal.
My own theory (100% speculation!!): another go-around gone wrong. We have seen too many of those in the last few years. A go-around is a normal procedure, but it doesn't happen very often besides in the simulator. Although not very complex, it requires swift and precise actions by the crew.
