The contract, which was announced to coincide with the Singapore Airshow 2016, is for a winglet-equipped C295W platform to be delivered to the Republic of Mali Air Force (Force Aérienne de la République du Mali: FARM) in the second half of this year.
According to Airbus DS, the C295W was chosen specifically for its ability to operate in the exceptionally harsh operating conditions encountered in sub-Saharan Africa.
Once in service, the twin-turboprop C295W will reconstitute
the FARM's tactical airlift capabilities that were lost when its
two Antonov An-26 'Curl' and single BT-67 (DC-3 Dakota) were placed in storage in November 2014.
