A military plane belonging to the forces of Marshal Khalifa Haftar was shot dead Sunday in Benghazi, in eastern Libya, while carrying out raids against jihadist positions, a military source said.

The MiG-23 crashed after being targeted by "extremist militias", told AFP a commander of special forces loyal to Haftar, specifying that the pilot had been able to eject and was safe and sound.

A source at the Benghazi air base confirmed to the LANA agency the crash, saying the plane had been hit by a "thermal missile".
