You have an exact location for this ?
A: It is the WMOOS location on page 297. N13.87849 E100.60014. From the first floor of the supermarked you can see the aircraft. I was able to get through the gate and took some pics in the distance before the sent me away but the quality sucks.
Thx, it´s the RTA Transportation Department in Bangkok Ban Khen. Was there in January and have more luck, a soldier was my bodyguard and i can make my pictures.

Thai-Malaysia (Langkawi) Part 1.

Post by stipjes »

@ TF-104G, Very nice pics! That is the spot indeed. I got permission to take some shot but when I walked to the helicopters a senior started shouting :-(. Because I had a jet leg and was tired I did not care too much (now I do ;-)).

Q: You poor bastard, I have tears in my eyes! NOT!
A: Its hot, humid and I must do a lot of planning so yes, life is hard ;-).

Q: Very nice Mr van Stiphout. Is it relaxed spotting in Thailand? No problems with the police or pushy locals?
A: I met a few pushy locals (I think military) but nothing really happened. I drove around a bit all day and if I did not feel comfortable I move on. No probs.

Q: I hope you add to the Khorat 2017 mil spotting page . Time permitting of course.
A: Do you have a link?

Wednesday 22 april
After I fall asleep in the Don Muang airport it feels like a very short while before the alarm rings. Pfff. It is indeed just a 10 minutes walk to the terminal.
All goes smooth and after a breakfast I am reading some serials on the military side. Via Kuala Lumpur I arrive in a very hot Langkawi at 15.00 where a driver that I arranged picked me up :-).
An hour later I drive my scooter to the airport and take pics of departing aircraft (these pics follow, I just managed to loose my history table in PS4).
I end the day with drinking beers at a beach bar. The next morning I try different spots around the airfield, here are the results of thursday 23 april:

Maybe the pics are a bit bleu-ish but somehow I cannot get it out with my PS4. Sorry for that. I use my JPEG's because my PS4 cannot read my RAW's :-(. All tips are welcome.
There are hardly any Dutch left around the airfield. Most where here the days before with the flight passes. Those I missed :(.
In the evening I sit in the beachbar again. Life is good. It does feel like a holiday now Fishbed 9307 ;-).

I would have been surprised if it didn't! It is a great combination of tourism, great aircraft, a nice scenery, good food and nice weather and it is very very cheap!

As for PS; I have a PS Creative Cloud subscribtion now fow some years. No hassle with non compatible raw files and always the most recent versions. Well worth the money I think!

Greetings, Paul

Should be 60313 with Orange/blue tail. Other ATR's blue/light blue tail.

Great! Thank you very much!

Friday is my last day in Langkawi. It was hot again, more humid and more cloudy.

Thai-Malaysia trip (World resorts, last day). Pics heavy

Thanks,
On the Friday afternoon I decide to try to visit the Maritime Exhibition at World Resorts 10 km south of the airport. A scooter get you there in 20 minutes, a car much and much longer, the traffic jam that I pass already started in town and reaches all the way to the harbour, I am glad I rented my beast ;-). When I got at the harbour around 1600 I get the same feeling like the day before. Not too much is happening.... That gives me time to see if I can make special arrangements for myself. The cleaning ladies in the Hotel that I met the day before mention that there are no rooms available. The idea is to get a room in the hotel so I can use the balcony that overlooks the harbour for good photography! With all rooms occupied I had to change tactics and I managed ;-):

When the show finished I get a bit stressed. In two hours I fly to Kuala Lumpur, had to return my scooter, take a taxi to the hotel, shower and wait for my drive to the airport.... After my return of the scooter the traffic jam back to the town makes sure there is no reason to take a taxi. I walk the 5km with photoback and a lot of heat. With no time for a shower I catch my ride (soaking wet) to the airport and jump in the plane. The hotel I booked at the Kuala Lumpur Airport is not what I expected, I booked for a four hour stay :-(. I make an extra booking so I have eight hours.

These are the last pics of this trip. I hope you like them. Last week at FF a few friends mentioned that my cropping might be incorrect. Tips are welcome. I crop now (via scripts in PS4) with quality 12 and w950xh633. If I do not use scrips I select 72dpi.

Tonight I leave for a short trip. Pics will follow soon.
