Tailnumbers on Eufi's Austrian Air Force

Post by Kilo Bravo »

Looking better at the photo's I took at Wittmund the 3rd of mai I see the Austrian Eurofighters all have a small number on the tail: AS002 (7L-WB), AS004 (7L-WD), GS003 (7L-WJ), GS024 (7L-WG) and GS0027 (7L-WH). Does anyone know the meaning of those numbers? (serialnumber, constructionnumber, IRAN-inspectionnumbers) I'm curious.

Have you tried our Austrian database yet? That would answer your question rightaway.
-> link to the Austrian AF db and search for EF2000.

I wouldn't call it a construction number.

AFAIK the Eurofighters have a world-wide sequence number which would be a c/n to me. GS024 is 124 for instance.

AS002 is a type-version and sequence number (the second Austrian single seat). GS024 was the 24th single seat built for Germany.

Agree with Stefan indeed. Unfortunately, the 'real' construction number is only known for just a few of the Eufi's (or should we call these Öfi's?). Pitty they didn't put those numbers in the tail... but interesting to see they put something on there at least.
