IATA (3 letter) and ICAO (4 letter) codes are well known. Perhaps not every code, but the existence at least. Most people will probably also know about FAA codes and some may also know the Transport Canada codes used for Canadian airport. But now I ran into another set of codes for Mexican airports. A list from the Mexican civil aviation authority displays only a 3-letter code which is NOT the IATA code, at least not in all cases. For example, HAM (IATA code for Hamburg) is given to Helipuerto Aristos Mexico. A hotel helipad in Mexico City. Interestingly, some of these codes are given to helipads on board Mexican commercial vessels as well!
Does anybody know more about these Mexican codes? Any background info would be much appreciated.
