Zaventem: the two Airbuses "always out of order" from the Defense to the scrap metal

Belga

A piece of fuselage amputated from the outer half of the wings, its drift and its front section:
that's all that remained on Sunday,
in a corner of the Brussels-National airport,
the last ex-Airbus A310 of the Belgian army,
while its twin has already been scrapped, found the agency Belga.

These two aircraft had been retired from service in 2009 and 2014 after serving a dozen years under the Belgian cockades in the 15th wing of transport Melsbroek, nearby, enamelled frequent breakdowns.

They had been resold, like an engine and spare parts, for about 700,000 euros to the MAD Africa company in Brussels, before being - fictitiously - registered in the United States.

They had been abandoned for years against the hangar of the aeronautical maintenance company Lufthansa Technik in Steenokkerzeel,
although they were sometimes moved to the car park,
depending on the need to park other aircraft there.

The two A310-222 military aircraft had been bought back from Singapore Airlines and entered service on 27 September 1997 and 3 May 1998 respectively.

Both Airbus aircraft had regularly steered the chronicle due to breakdowns often publicized during flights Ministerial or troop-contributing missions abroad.

Their replacement was assured by the leasing of an Airbus A330 to the Portuguese company Hi Fly for several years and, since May 2014, the smaller A321 to the same company.

Grtz,

Robert W
