Two aircraft are in use by the DOJ since some years already: N119NA and N874TW.

Thanks, didn't know that. Indeed both already since late 2014. They seem to fly over the eastern US mainly. N874TW also lacks the door behind the wing and has winglets.

RUSK74 landed at Andrews, and continued two hours later to Spokane with the same callsign.

It came from Stuttgart as JONAS75. I took a picture of it passing high over Nieuw-Vennep;



One of the "flagged" ones, as it should be.

98-6006 earlier this week in Spain overflew Belgium this morning on its way back to the US, after a 24h-stop in Ramstein. It must have been to the Middle-East or beyond (some radar tracks flying south around Israel).

Here a post from 2014 where somebody might have seen another in-flight change, from 98-6006 to N610G this time:

With increased contrast not only the area near the flag, but also around the registration seemed to have been worked on.

Great, thanks! 12+19 Windows. Every pic of 98-6006 seems to have this config, like N610G, which hasn't flown since 22jul.

02-5001 Has been flying almost on a daily basis the whole year. N226G flew between 21jul and 17aug so during that time 02-5001 should have been N610G, later N226G again.

I am starting to think that since 98-6006 showed up in 2013 it is always N610G, and 99-6143 is always N226G. Before mid2013 99-6143 was seen with both window configs, after that only 13+17.
98-6006 was used shortly in 2000, probably on N757AV, the aircraft that later became 02-4452. In that case clever to use that number again in 2013 to confuse us even more.

02-5001 Seems to stay in the US and still swaps regulary between the two frames. E.g. pics of 10dec15 show 12+19 windows, 25sep16 13+17, 26apr17 12+19, and 05jul17 13+17 again.

Someone will know, of course, but they may not wish to share! For the moment we speculate.

Swapping civil and mil reg/serial for a specially configured aircraft seems consistent with visiting civilian or military airports and may be something to do with diplomatic/overflying rights.

As far as specific usage goes, for example on 24-Aug-17 both 25001 and 86006 went to TNX (Tonopah Test Range) but as we know, this is often code for other destinations within the Nellis ranges e.g. Groom Lake, so who knows whether and where they landed. On their journey to and fro, it seems that between them they may have visited Fort Benning, Fort Bragg, Pinal (Marana), Little Rock, Davis Monthan and Oceana, so on this occasion, one could guess that a cross-service exercise was the purpose. Maybe 86006 using callsign JUMPY87 was coincidental!
