LOG (small) Croatia September 2017

Post by patrick dirksen »

Hi all,

Although a holiday with the girlfriend, a little bit of spotting was included :-)

Split-Divulje (7-9)

202 Mi-8

A visit around 20:00 h still yielded this Hip, outside at the barracks.

Split-Divulje (8-9)

Nothing....
Around noon everything was flying I guess.

Zadar-Zemunik (8-9)

OH-58 322, 324, 328
Plus 4x CL-415 and an AT-802.
Also seen were all the well known gate guards (Mi-8, UTVA-60 and -75, MiG-21, G-2, J-20 and relatively recent arrival H.369, plus the Dakota that is described as dumped but looks preserved as well).
This was all seen late Friday afternoon, with the three Kiowa's very active still. The AT-802 took off, but I was still looking for a good spot and couldn't read the serial unfortunately, while the Canadairs were all on the ramp and were totally unreadable due to heatwaves. A long shot obviously, but if somebody knows which ones they were....

On Saturday 9-9 we visited the Krka national park, and while inside a big bush fire nearby caused at least one CL-415 to fly over multiple times. Again no luck with the serial however.

Split-Divulje (12-9)

Mi-8 202 (KFOR mks), 213

The 202 landed at the civil side for some reason, while 213 was on the ground at the barracks.

Finally when leaving for home from Dubrovnik airport on Sunday morning (17-9) another Mi-8 was parked at the civil ramp. I only saw this when taxiing out, and of course we headed to the wrong end of the runway to read it off.... I'm sure this is the same helicopter I heard overflying our apartment in Dubrovnik town the evening before. Again a long shot, but stranger things have happened in the past ;-)

And that's all folks!
Cheers,

It moved quite some time ago already from its spot near the runway to a spot more on base. It can indeed be described as preserved since, though its state is still questionable (unless it was restored recently).

It was seen from a (slowly) driving car, but it didn't seen recently restored though.

I forgot to mention the preserved J-1 by the way, which is also along the road behind the main gate.

Three of the four CL-415s were 811, 855, 888.
Lucky you were with the OH-58Ds. During my five visits in the period 30/8-8/9/17 I never saw one fly nor a AT-802.

At Split-Divulje did you drive to the other side of the bay from where you would have seen the third based Mi-8MTV inside the open hangar: 275

Note that they have more Mi-8s! On August 14th I saw Mi-8MTV-1s 201, 202, 251 and Mi-8T 274.

Note that 275 is also an Mi-8T, not an MTV.

Thanks for the CL.415s!!

I didn't drive to the other side of the bay at Split, I was with my girlfriend and it was only a quick stop both times, the drive to the other side would have taken too long unfortunately.
