What a nice historic pics again Gerrit. You saw a lot of operational EVO S11s on August 29th. Eleven of them actually made a farewell flight to Twenthe on that day, returning to Gilze-Rijen the next day via Deelen. Nice pics also of the Mirage 3Es. This was the first squadron exchange for 316sqn indeed. I always wondered why I only saw reports with the codes, not with the serials, but now I get it: these were really hard to read off in that early c/s. I had no numbers except 527/13-QA, plus codes 13-QF, 13-QH and 13-QK.

I think I did not see an answer for the question about 13-QH. According to the excellent French Mirage III publication from DTU 547 was indeed 13-QH from 14jun68 until 21apr76.

Me too, cycling, 2.5 hours one-way. But obviously I know the 45 min. walk from the railway station too.

Yup, and then it was Hfl 45,00 for a while.
(After that I lost track as I wasn’t eligible to use it anymore...)

Memories...
When I was 14/15 I travelled for a week with a tienertoer (was still 7 or 8 days back then) to visit all the Dutch airbases. I didn't have an idea about exactly where to go and how to get there. So I ended up doing some very long walks.

Now I have a 15 year old son. If he wanted to travel the country all by himself carrying an expensive camera, without exactly knowing where to go and without any form of communication (gsm), I would be very reluctant to let him go. Times have changed.


By the way, late 1983, early 1984 I was stationed at Gilze (LUOS). I remember the preparations for the TAM. A group of people from the army (dienstplichtigen van landmacht) came over to lay down the additional barbed wire fences. According to the base LB-ers they were "not very smart" and there was a lot of drinking and fighting in their quarters most nights.

My parents didn't even know that I went for a trip to Wildenrath. Being 15..... Same story as you wrote. You had to find out what was the easiest way. First a bus, then the train, last bit by rental bike..... But, what a fun!
