In my recollection it never cleared up that morning because of all the dust in the air (sahara sands & portugal fires). At least not until 11.30am. :? :(

Silly question perhaps, but do these so called weather reports really add to the log?

Personally I like the detail is his logs very much! They don’t bother me at all!

Answer: Tradition, as when beginning spotting some 30 years ago; I was always wondering which weather minima where required for which kind of flying. Same for the flying times: Would there be any regularity become evident when comparing flying times over the time; If you regard Büchel: Yes there is: morning wave normally starts around 10.00 a.m., afternoon wave 15.00 p.m. - in contrast e.g. to Nörvenich with a wider variety of flying times.
It also helps my own memory, as I can better remember certain days when I know if I can imagine a rather dull, a sunny, a rainy, or a f... cold day.
So I can still imagine based Jaguars taxying in at RAF Laarbruch at lunch-time during a boiling hot summer day or RAF Buccanneers taxying out from the "Vossem" shelter area on a mild sunny February morning at RAF Wildenrath.
Hope this makes things clear.
