Question about Ramstein spotting

Good afternoon,

Haven't been at Ramstein in more then two decades, but want to give it a try for the expected NASA DC8
I found out four Afghan C-27's are stored in the Southern shelter area.
Can they be seen from one of the high vantage points like the Bismarck Turm, Burg Nanstein or Am Herrengärtchen?
(I've never been before at one of these three).

Remco, if you walk (not allowed to drive) along the fence over the perimeter road, you can reach the parking area where the 4 G.222's are parked. It's at the end of the southern taxi-track, and the shelter area where the Learjets operate out of. G.222's are good visable during the winter months from this location: 49.423001, 7.577064.

Viewing the base and reading of serials can be done best from Am Herrengärtchen/Auf Der Pick, in the "Am Melkerei" part of Landstuhl. Although not 100% of the aircraft can be seen, you will get most of them from this official viewing area/vantage point.

I do think however that the Steigstraße in Kindsbach gives better results in reading off movements... park the car here (https://www.google.nl/maps/place/49%C2% ... 3144?hl=nl) and walk along the footpath to point (https://www.google.nl/maps/place/49%C2% ... 1611?hl=nl)

But that's my personal preference of course. Wijgert is right on the spot with the Afghan G222s tho

Last time I checked NASA only mentioned "Germany" for the DC-8 tdy. It may well go elsewhere, such as CGN.

Whats size of bino's do you need to read off serials from the kindsbach spot?
Can you also make photoos from that spot? If so, how many mms do you need?

Haven't been at Ramstein for about some 20 years ....

I use a 20-40X60 monocular, and for photography I think 800mm is needed...
