A Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) E/A-18G Growler Electronic Warfare Platform experienced a critical engine failure upon takeoff at Nellis AFB. The aircraft skidded off the runway and the pilot was able to exit the aircraft safely. Both the pilot and ground crew are safe.
What appears to be a twin-tail fighter jet had an "incident" during takeoff that was aborted at Nellis Air Force Base on Saturday morning.
A News 3 camera caught the tail end of the smoke from the fire about 10:50 a.m.
Smoke billowed into the northeast valley sky about 10:45 and could be seen for miles. Fire crews were still at the scene as of 1:15 p.m.
