The Russian Armed Forces suffered the most serious non-combat casualties in the last year: an An-26 military transport aircraft crashed when landing. The car, carrying 26 servicemen and six crew members, did not reach the air base of Khmeimim (Latakia) about 500 m. The preliminary reason was a technical malfunction, a special commission was formed to find out the circumstances of the emergency.

The aircraft, according to "Kommersant",
was a part of the 33rd separate transport mixed aviation regiment stationed at the airfield of Levashovo.

The Russian Investigative Committee (SCR) qualified the crash as a violation of the rules of the flights.
According to a Kommersant source close to the Defense Ministry,
the An-26 (board number 52)
that crashed in Syria was part of
the 33rd separate mixed transport aviation regiment (the Levashovo airfield)
of the 6th Leningrad Red Banner Army Air Force and Air Defense of the Western Military district.

"Board number 52 " = Bort 52 I suppose... :|

The people on board has rised to 39, no one has survived.

I have the following info about the aircraft:

10107 An-26 52 red RF-92955 1980 2015.05 Tambov VVS Strategic Forces
10107 An-26 52 red RF-92955 1980 2017.08 Tambov VVS ex RF-36128 Balashov

It must suddenly been transferred to St Petersburg Levashovo.
The air activity around St Petersburg-Levashovo and nearby Vyborg-Gromovo has rised after new headquarters been located in St Petersburg area.

The aircraft seems to have connection with Balashov, a OCU unit for training of An-26 pilots.
A year ago one An-26 crashed at Balashov.

Russia is short of transport planes. They have problems to find new transport aircraft to replace old.

Old An-26 appear suddenly. Russia seems to search after old airplanes to mod.
Not long ago a An-148 crashed after flight from Moscow.
Russia is eager to very soon to blame the pilot. Even then the cause of accident is something else.

Near 200 An-26 are used by different users such as VVS (VKS), VMF, MVD and FPS.
