Tucson Eastern Scrapyards, HU-16's

Post by David Moore »

Hi All,

On Sunday 11/03/2018 I visited the above yards, around the fence in the morning & a flyover at lunchtime. I saw some HU-16's that I could not identify & wonder if anyone can help me with ID's please.

K-Tech Aviation had a cockpit by their P-3A

Western International had 6 Albatrosses of which I could only identify 51-0043, 1275 & 2135

United Aeronautical Corp had 2, including 137912 (from the now cleared Specialized Aircraft Maintenance yard)

Can anyone help me with the missing 5 serials of these HU-16's, please?

Thank you very much

David

Hi,

Still working on the log, but a few:
K-Tech Aviation had a cockpit by their P-3A
This had code 905 on the nose, and I presume this is what's left of 131905. That used to be in the nearby yard of Specialized Aircraft Maintenance, which is cleared as you said. It also matches the photos I found online.
Western International had 6 Albatrosses of which I could only identify 51-0043, 1275 & 2135
I have indeed 6 here, with 1265 as an addition. The other two were bare metal unfortunately.
United Aeronautical Corp had 2, including 137912 (from the now cleared Specialized Aircraft Maintenance yard)
The other one we read off as 8147, but I can't tie that one up yet....
Cheers,

That's great, thank you very much for the additional 2, possibly 3, serials Patrick. 8147 doesn't look like part of any listed Albatross serial, or N-reg unfortunately ...

Hi David,

I don't know whether you saw my recent report on a couple of mailing lists (plus a few replies), but the second HU-16 in the UAC yard turned out to be 131917.
At Western, one of the bare metals ones should be 142428. The last one is still unknown unfortunately, and will probably only ever be known if it is sold so it can be inspected properly...
Cheers,
