Re: ILA Berlin 25-29 April 2018

Post by Sand »

I witnessed the arrival of the F/A-18E and the EA-18G on the late afternoon of the 24. April. They made an overhead approach to 25L, then braked to the Nord, continued alongside 07L and came back for landing on 25L. My question is, does somebody know from which carrier they were dispatched? I assume that they are part of a carrier group on station in the Atlantic or Mediterranean.

CH-53K left today (to Holzdorf).

The helicopters and Transall participating in the demo flew from Holzdorf. Noted were: 2x Transall, 2x CH-53, 5x H145, 3x Tigre and 3x NH90 (so 1 spare aircraft each). No ID-ing due heatwaves.

For those trying to make photos from the southside of the airport. All public roads leading to the fence are closed with some roadblocks mannen by police. Shots close to the final approach of 07r is possible. Views on static display are inpossible from here

Can you be more specific? I was there on Wednesday and while many roads were closed, the Kienitzer Str. / Kienitzberg unpaved roads leading SE from Glasow village remained open. It was (then) possible to stay in the field immediately behind the fence near the 07R threshold, and also on the hill between that field and the golf course (the Kienitzberg I suppose, 52.337830, 13.470407). No view of the airport there but a good position for photographing demos, esp fixed-wing.

You are right. As I wrote the area near 07R is open. (near the golf course).
But the road leading from Rotberg to the runway and sideroads from the main 402 road are all closed.
Could not enter the area at approach of 25L either (near 52.368016, 13.535274).
A policeman was very angry at me (Sie muss sofort weg. SOFORT)

Thanks Marcel.

As far as I'm concerned, the Kienitzberg area is exactly were you want to be though, certainly with the 07s in use. So I found it rather strange that that area was open, that there was almost nobody there on Wednesday, and that the Germans were telling each other on Flugzeugforum that nothing was possible.

For future reference, since there could be another ILA before BER opens: I spent Mon and Tue mostly at the 25R spot at 52.376349, 13.534364. Parking 400 m further east. Most of the ILA arrivals used the north runway, especially on Monday. Be warned that the regular airline traffic is very boring though, mainly Easyjet and Ryanair.

Regular traffic is indeed boring. The approach of 07L is near the house of my brother in law. I can do spotting from the backyard. Waiting for BER to be opened.

AWACS at 13:00 on Monday
US Navy P-8 in the morning of Monday
