Port visit Zeebrugge 2018

At the moment ARC Endurance is on its way to Zeebrugge. Estimated arrival is on Thursday 26 July during mid day. So, loading the helicopters will begin shortly after that. Endurance is expected to be back in Beaumont around 15 August.

For some reason Endurance appears to be the preferred vessel for the transportation of the helicopters. Does anyone know why? Is it different than the other ARC ro-ro vessels?

It's a lot bigger. Not sure if that's the reason though. Perhaps there could be other logistic/planning reasons as well.

Seen last Sunday in the harbour in Zeebrugge were the following US Army choppers:

A bit late, but thanks for the log!!

Probably a stupid question, but I presume those four couldn't be found by deduction? I didn't really follow all the incoming and outgoing traffic of all these detachments, sorry....

A possibly more sensible question: I notice many of the H-60s carry a badge on the nose, but some have the red cross. Is it known which ones have the red cross, and do all others carry the unit badge? On the Chinooks only 77, 80, 82 and 83 carry a badge on the tail, the others don't. And what about the Apaches, any markings on those?

First of all; it was impossible to read the UH-60M/HH-60Ms as they can fold their horizontal stabilizers upwards after which they will obscure the serials. Thanks to the great work of Adrian Sturmer at Spangdahlem most are known but four UH-60Ms remained unidentified at Spang. Note that I believe that 30 UH-60Ms were deployed to Europe so eight, probably deployed in Eastern Europe were redeployed from another port or by air. All 24 AH-64s (all wearing a yellow badge on their nose) were positively identified in Zeebrugge as were the Chinooks. Note that one Chinook (15-08181) and one HH-60M (16-20857) were on static display during the Belgian Navy Days. It is likely that these were relocated to the ICO terminal after the event and are now awaiting transportation.

These are strongly believed to be the winning numbers:

Thanks Paul!
Adding to that, a search on the web revealed that all HH-60Ms have Red Cross markings and no unit markings, all other helicopters have the yellow badge on the nose (Apaches, H-60s and also the Chinooks).

These two were indeed noted on the 19th together with the rest at the ICO terminal.

Hi Arno,

Only 3 are known. 15-20794, 16-20809 and 16-20811. Number 4 is the unknown UH-60 which land in RS on the 01st June and departed on the 04th June as Army73122formation.

Canadian frigate HMCS Halifax will visit Zeebrugge from 10nov 08:00 till 15nov 08:30. It could carry a helicopter, but not confirmed.
