...filmed from quite farther away:Russia Blocks Kerch Strait, Scrambles Aircraft Against Ukraine Navy Ships
A Russian tanker ship parked beneath the new Crimean Bridge on Sunday, November 25,
blocking the Kerch Strait passage between the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov,
after Russia said three Ukrainian navy ships violated its territorial waters.
Ukraine said that a Russian coast guard ship rammed one of the Ukrainian ships traveling from Odesa on the Black Sea to Mariupol on the Sea of Azov.
Both sides called the other’s actions provocative,
and Ukraine said that Russia was violating a 2003 treaty calling for shared access to the strait.
Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine in 2014 and
has been increasingly restrictive on ships passing through Kerch Strait,
the only sea passage between Ukraine’s ports on the Black Sea and its ports on the Sea of Azov.
Russia also opened the 18-kilometer Crimean Bridge in May 2018,
a bridge Ukraine says was built illegally over the shared waters of the strait.
Russia also sent helicopters and fighter jets,
seen in these videos, to monitor the Ukrainian ships.
