With thanks to assistance from Mainsail the 3rd row of F/A-18S should now read as follows

3rd row (9 x F-18) to the right of the other rows left to right

______ 237
______ 32/RP45
______ RP42
______ RO22
______ SH-19/FH67
______ FP78
______ FP87
______ FP95
______ F18 Fuselage no tail

I had originally put 237 in a separate location but it seems it is on the end of this line , in my pictures the left end of line 3 is blocked out by the CH-53 hence the confusion

I'll post my log shortly. Spotting at the runway at the dog beach is great. However the Hornblower tour is nice but frustration for the number crunchers as so many go unread. Loads of modex's but no buno's.

My log from Nov 8 and 9. Only the KC-135's, P-8, and T-34 were noted on the 9th. All others from the Hornblower harbor tour. Did the two hour tour and got lucky with some overflyers as well as three Ch-53 onboard the Somerset. The North H-60 ramp was doable. The center ramp was difficult and the South ramp is impossible.

Here it goes (some with help from previous notes on this thread as well as the list from Mr Weinrich. Thank you).

I counted the following H-60's on the ramp the morning of the 9th:
North Ramp: 42
Center Ramp: 43
South Ramp: 21

They have quite the H-60 inventory.

Also noted the two F/A-18's onboard the CVN-70 USS Carl Vinson and CVN-71 USS Theodore Roosevelt. CVN-70 looked like ....54 and the CVN-71 was coded .../71. I have a FOIA request in with the PA's of both ships to see if they are willing/able to help ID these birds (stay tuned).

Cheers,

Tally.

Well, the PA from the Roosevelt responded and stated it is indeed a deck trainer and since it is not flying no more the BuNo has been removed. Only number they could find was FA00146. Could this be the old AMARC code? Not sure. Will check once I get home. Anyone any idea what this number could be/mean?

Cheers,

Tally.

161706 was last seen in the NAD part of the museum compound, missing its cockpit, so perhaps unlikely to be the aircraft involved.

Behind the pilots seat, and if it’s a twin stick then it’s behind the rear seat, port side if I recall correctly.

161706 was a Deck trainer at North Island, I noted this aircraft on the USS Constellation at North Island in April 2002. No BuNo was read, only Identified from the AMARC code.
The museum compound sighting was correct ?

Practical question. I will be in SD for two weeks for my company and going to spend couple of days for spotting.
So, any advice what would be the best day (of the week) for that? Do they fly at Saturday? Sunday?
Thanks in advance!

Dmitri During my stay in San Diego Sept 2018 I did not see any helicopters move at weekends(they are out on the ramps though so visible from boat tours around the bay)
There were a couple of transports C17/C40 operating at weekend

through the week helicopters were very active starting flying at 07.00/07.30 through till 22.00/23.00 most days
also of note departures were in 3 different directions
some lifted and turned left out via the Ocean past the National monument
some lifted and turned back over the field and out over Coronado Beach
some lifted and turned right out via the city/USS independence and up the inner bay
hope this helps
