Creil - Super Mystere B.2

Post by mikebursell »

Delving through old logs in the Winter. At the Portes Ouvertes at Creil in 5.78 I noted a burnt Super Mystere B.2 on the dump (not to be confused with the Mirage IIIC also present). A possibility for this aircraft is SMB2 93/10-SS which was w/o at Creil 15.1.69 in a belly landing. Post crash photos (with thanks to the recent Super Mystere book) show the aircraft to be complete. The aircraft was SOC 20.2.69 and would seem to be a prime candidate to be given to the firemen. I would tend to be sceptical of a hulk surviving 9 years with the fire section, but Creil had a track record of longevity with wrecks on the dumo (eg the Noratlas and F-84F).

Anyone able to substantiate this pure guesswork?

Cheers,

Mike

To shoot down my own guesswork, it seems that 10-SS went to Creil for the firemen.

Should have read:-

"To shoot down my own guesswork, it seems that 10-SS went to Cambrai" (Not Creil).

Thanks Andy!
