Red Flag 19-1 players

OK, which Friday? (8th or 15th). AFAIK they were Red Flagging on other days.

But they did not fly with the Red Flag mission that day, only with the Weapons School aircraft, the Draken aircraft and a lot A-10 aircraft (Close Air Support?).

OK, which Friday 8th or 15th? The 8th was a Red Flag non-flying day, it was also 'Distinguished Visitors Day' (although apparently there was a small mission!) The 15th was the last day, and reports suggest the mission was smaller than usual, and some stuff went home?

I wasn't there but there are lots of reports of (mostly unmarked) DM A-10s doing Green Flag. The usual clues are that they operate from the revetments and use dedicated Green Flag callsigns (which recently have been RENO for the am mission and SHARK for the pm one). They've also been seen in a certain canyon this week. The based A-10s fly regularly as part of Weapons School and OT missions.

I was there on the last friday, the 15th. It was a good flying day for the Red Flag. Almost all units were flying. Only two USN F-18s went home early in the morning and the USAF E-3 went home direct after the mission. All other participants returned to base, including the KC-135s, Sentry and Voyager.

are they specific hours in the morning and in the afternoon ?

If I can help,Usually it seems the Afternoon Red Flag Mission starts around 12:30-1PM,and Launches last until about 2:30-3Pm,and then soon after will be the recoveries,lasting until about or a little past 5PM.

Night missions start around 8PM And can last past midnight.

The Tankers are usually first to Depart

The locals and Green Flaggers fill in the morning missions. First flights depart as early as just past 7 AM.

Most days see Weapons School (WAs) flying morning and afternoon, plus OTs, usually after Weapons School. Add to the mix the 24th TASS (WA, ex HL), plus anything else that may be present, either for Green Flag or doing it’s own thing.

If you’re after photos, the mornings can be challenging unless they’re landing on the 3s.

I visited Nellis on Sunday 11 February to view the Red Flag 19-1 participants.

Many thanks to all of you who have already posted logs / updates.

I am interested in hearing from anyone who can help me identify the Draken International aircraft that took part in this Flag.

Viewed from the Quarry side of the base, I noted the following, in two lines, between the T38s and the Australian P3 and Wedgetail:

Line 1: 3 x A4N [dark camo] and 4 x L-159 [facing nose right]
Line 2: 6 x L-159 and 3 x A4N, 1 x dark camo and 2 two-tone blue [facing nose left]

In addition, in an open shelter, off the main ramp at the 03 end, there were a further 3 or 4 L-159 and 3 A4N [as viewed from East Cheyenne Avenue].

Any help that you may be able to provide with the identities of the above aircraft will be gratefully received.

Regarding the A-4s, most of the dark green ones are A-4Ks. The Ns have a hump, the Ks don’t.
