Op 21 januari 2019 heeft een F-16 jachtvliegtuig van het Commando Luchtstrijdkrachten
schade opgelopen aan de beplating en
de motor tijdens een trainingsvlucht boven het militair oefenterrein voor jachtvliegtuigen en helikopters de Vliehors op Vlieland.
Twee F-16 jachtvliegtuigen hebben oefeningen uitgevoerd waarbij met het boordkanon een oefendoel werd beschoten.
Hierbij heeft minimaal één afgevuurd patroon de zijkant van één van de F16’s geraakt en
zijn delen van de afgeschoten munitie in de motor terecht gekomen.
Het betreft hier een zelfbeschieting.

Reason
On January 21, 2019, an F-16 fighter aircraft of the Air Force Command was damaged
during the training flight over the military training ground
for fighter aircraft and helicopters the Vliehors on Vlieland.
Two F-16 fighter aircraft carried out exercises in which a practice target was shot at with the on-board gun.
Hereby at least one fired cartridge hit the side of one of the F16's and
parts of the fired ammunition ended up in the engine.
This is a self-bombardment.
The pilot aborted the flight, carried out the necessary emergency procedures and
sent the aircraft to Leeuwarden Air Base, accompanied by the other F-16.
Both aircraft landed without problems at Leeuwarden Air Base after the flight,
after which the damage to one of the aircraft was found.
