This summer, August 25th to be precise,
British Airways will be utilizing its Boeing 747s on domestic flights.
The carrier mainly uses a mix of Airbus A319, A320, and A321 aircraft for these (very) short-haul routes.
It appears that the 747swill fly on Sunday, August 25th on the following routes:
•BA1326/1327 – London-Newcastle
•BA1386/1391 – London-Manchester
•BA1482/1487 – London-Glasgow
While you’d normally step onboard a British Airways 747 to go on a 10+ hour flight from London to Cape Town,
these routes are obviously very, very domestic.
These flights are timetabled to take 70-90 minutes to fly,
but in reality flights could be as short as 35 minutes.
Each flight will be flown by one of the 747s painted in a different retro livery. The three 747 liveries are:
•BOAC
•Landor
•Negus

Celebrating 100
The liveries and these planes being flown on domestic routes are part of the celebrations
surrounding British Airways turning 100 years old.
In fact, August 25th is the official birthday:
To celebrate the big birthday, the airline’s website says:
“We will be celebrating our landmark birthday by celebrating Britain.”

They are the people who represent the values we want to
On any other day you would find yourself flying these routes on small narrowbody aircraft.
On a normal Club Europe (short-haul business class) booking you would sit in a row of 3 regular seats, with the middle blocked out.
However, on this special day you have the opportunity to fly with Club World level comfort and service, which includes a lie flat seat.
It’s also quite possible with these 747s that you would have the opportunity to fly in First Class.
Furthermore, economy passengers just might have the opportunity
to fly in premium economy at no extra cost.
We are certainly excited about these flights.
At this point we probably have as many questions as we do answers including food service, special events, availability.
We’ve reached out to British Airways for an official statement but have not yet received an answer. We’ll update you as soon as possible!
