HARS plans November arrival for John Travolta Boeing 707: Reports

June 27, 2019

An ex-Qantas Boeing 707 owned by John Travolta
is expected to be flown from the United States to Australia in November, media reports say.

The 707-138B, registered N707JT, is headed to the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) located at Albion Park.

Travolta said in May 2017 he wanted to donate the aircraft to HARS.

Since then, volunteers from the society have been over to Georgia in the United States where the 707 is stored
to work on restoring the aircraft to a safe flying state
for the trip to Australia,
as well as working on the necessary regulatory approvals.

It was meant to be John Travolta's great gift to Australia
but plans for the Hollywood star to fly his once-beloved Qantas Boeing 707 back to Australia in November
have been thwarted, with the vintage airliner gathering cobwebs on an airfield in Georgia.

Instead, Travolta will arrive in Australia empty-handed as he embarks on a national speaking tour.

As a result, a band of eager plane spotters is trying to get through an enormous amount of red tape and maintenance issues to bring the big plane home.
"It could cost up to $2 million based on our estimates
to carry out the amount of repairs and maintenance required to meet all the requirements to get the aircraft back in the air,"
former Qantas pilot John Dennis,
who is overseeing the project on behalf of the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society,
which ultimately wants to put the plane on display at its enormous facility near Albion Park.
