Lufthansa Cargo is planning an early retirement for its remaining MD-11Fs.

The German freighter will phase out the 12 MD-11F aircraft in 2020,
five years earlier than the company's initial plan.

The operator plans to replace them with Boeing 777Fs.
Lufthansa Cargo is expected to add two 777F by the end of this year.
With the arrival of these planes, two of the current MD-11Fs will be removed from the fleet this year at the first stage.
The remaining ten MD-11F will leave the fleet by the end of next year.

The company spokesman Andreas Pauker said
the company aims to reinvent itself with a more modern, full-freighter fleet in the short term.

Lufthansa Cargo suffered from overcapacity in the first half of the year.
The capacity usage became 61.3 percent, 6.7 points lower compared to the same period of the last year.

Due to global trade wars between the United States, China, and the European Union,
it keeps falling.

Union representatives and Lufthansa management are currently negotiating
a social plan or other opportunities to employ affected flight crews and ground personnel
in other positions in the Lufthansa Group in order to avoid job losses.

In addition to the twelve MD-11F,
Lufthansa Cargo operates seven Boeing 777F in its worldwide freight network.
