22-7-2019 Texas F16 diverted to Lakenheath

Post by paul-760 »

This afternoon two F16 from Fort Worth, Texas, made a precautionary landing at RAF Lakenheath.
85-1553/TX lost all comms after having been refuelled over the North Sea by KC-135 57-1493 from Mildenhall and then redirected to the nearest USAF base. It was accompanied by 85-1412/TX. The pair took some time to burn off fuel before landing at Lakenheath, "holding hands".
The F16s were on their way back from Romania via Spangdahlem to the States. The rest of the flight continued their transatlantic crossing as planned behind a KC-10 via Scotland.

The F-16C is 85-1553 calling MAZDA63.

85-1412 was calling MAZDA64.
