Skaraborg Air Force Wing, F 7 Såtenäs (ESIB , 11.09.2019) ''Gripen on the Highway''

Last wednesday I was able to witnnes a very rare occasion.

Once in a while the Swedish Air Force is practising landing and take ofs from designated Highway locations.

This wednesday some VIPs were present and were shown a of show of force on the Highway 44 just a few kilometers east of Såtenäs. Thanks to some local aviation enthousiast I was able to withness this from the woods and the thrill is still unbelievable ..... the approx. 1000mtr landing strip was closed for the afternoon and at 12:20 the JAS39 C Gripen 39220 came in for a full stop landing on the A44. The road to the city of Tun was turned into a temporary refueling and armament area and at 15:00 hours the Gripen was set to take off again.

Do you get a permission or is it easy to get close to the "runway" and do spotting?

No permission and it was rather easy to get close to the action. Just a quick walk through the woods
