Some 70 combat aircraft gathered at IAF Base Ovda in early November for the 4th bi-ennial multinational Blue Flag exercise. This time the emphasis appears to have been on high-level air to air and air to ground simulations, with, for the first time 5th gen F-35 Lightning III aircraft participating alongside 4th gen fighter jets and G-550 AEW assets. Much of the action took place in an area referred to as “Nowhereland”, anyone with access to one of the commercial tracking sites can see just exactly where that is and who might be the simulated foe.
