OK, clear explanation. Well I agree with that; I have also the same feeling with photography. Also here sometimes a memory card dump is done by people to get comments unfortunately. Also keep in mind that YouTube is full with video advising people to hunt for the clicks and followers! This behavior is created on the video platform itself and goes much further that the aviation channels only.

Wow, three (3!) years later, people finally agree. Now lets see if the moderators finally get the message. Because other than making a sticky of this topic (yes, really...) they have done absolutely nothing visibly. Most topics are still for one video only, most topics are rarely viewed and since I opened this topic the spam level has only gone up. I mean, do you really have to put your freaking name in the topic title?

Anyway, I have since dialed back my contribution considerably, because as some poster here now as well suggested "just don't watch if you don't want to see it". I had figured out already that that indeed was the only option.... unfortunately.

During the past years I have researched various options to clear the annoying factors in the Video topic. Spoken with numerous regular contributors about their wishes and ideas. This resulted in desires of own channel-topics towards inclusion of YouTube channels and the option of closing down Video topic completely and many variations in between. The later has my personal preferance however the Scramble Board did not agree to this. Creation of own channel pages would include a lot of content controle and would lead to similar requests of photographers from the Photo-topics. To much workload on our behalf so these plans did not made it either.

Bear in mind that the number of people complaining about the video-topics does not exceed 10, the same number of people also voted to keep the Video-topic as it is so you guys keep the score in balance.

Active regulation has been performed for a period of six months; costed a lot of additional hours for myself, lots of mediation behind the scene and nearly cost us our sponsor. Not the result I had in mind ...

And where does this ends? Photo-topics show similar cases, Civil/Military News-topics share similar cases. These need to be included in general regulation and this regulation also needs to be monitored. The vision of Scramble is to be a complete platform for all aviation enthousiast, this implies some general regulation and a lot of self-regulation. Like you said it yourself; if you ignore certain behavior it will reduce over time.

Personally I have a clear vision how I would like to organise things around here and so do my fellow moderators however we all have to keep in mind the greater good and that can conflict with personal opinions. It takes time and eventually will lead to solutions that will satisfy the majority.

And we have arrived at the next level: using stupid iconographs in topic titles to draw more attention to it. How much clearer must it get that videos are only posted to attract views (and thereby money). Hence, it is SPAM!

And about solutions, I have suggested that already. Remove the video topics from the active topics list. Just like you already do with the 'your website' posts. Generally those posts are only to attract visits to websites, so are the posts for videos. It does not remove the video posts from the board, it does not in anyway require active modetarion, but it does reduce the spam to all other users. Everybody happy (except probably the video spammers, but who cares about that).

But as I already suggested that years ago, I am sure nothing will happen again. And as this new level of spam proofs, ignoring it does NOT make it go away.

Same feeling I have for all the Thai/Laos airport posts: sometimes the “active topics” section looks like the menu from the local Thai restaurant. I guess for 99% of the messageboard readers it adds no value.

An alternative would be if Scramble forum would allow to choose on which topics and areas a forum user can view new posts.

You are quite black and white with this statement. Accusing all video makers here of spamming, that's pretty intense, I hope you understand! You are also guilty of spamming yourself. I mean take a look at that mega banner under your posts that is like gigantic clickbait under every post (de pot verwijt de ketel). Making money is very disappointing on the channel you refer to, the costs are always dozens of factors higher than the revenues, so that statement really doesn't add anything.

In addition, there are also plenty of video makers who just have a hobby just like you have with your wrecks and relics. Every day I enjoy the good videos that come by from a number of very good film makers who simply show the flight movements of the past week in NL and surroundings. Doesn't seem wrong with me, or are we going to tackle all the bad photographers in the photo topic on producing spam, because they dump their memory card here.

Live and let live I would say. I also do that with topics that I don't care about. Blaming a whole group just like that because you think so is a typical example of the hardening of today's society, and I think it's a shame that it should be like this

Funny thing is that i discussed exactly this a few days ago. Good to see i’m not the only one who has that feeling about Asian/Thailand-topics. Most of the time filled with ads-b shizzle.

But same for videotopics with clickbait videos. SUPERDUPER MEGA SPECTACULAIR TAKE OFF OF REALLY COOL SUPER SPECIAL AIRCRAFT AT TEUGE AIRFIELD. And then a Cessna 172 is filmed.

But the Asian-thing annoys me the most. Scrolling, scrolling, scrolling, next page, scrolling. Ahhh there are the movements and expectations of Dutch / German / Belgian airports/-bases. And my guess is that most users are form our part of Europe?

Call them challenges of the current times ... ADS-B reports also 'produce' 50% of all Dutch airport movements (CIV and MIL) so we don't need to look outside our own borders. This is part of reality ... it only depend is people are honest about using it as primary source (or not). As platform Scramble is open for everybody who want aviation related information to share and it is up to you readers to decide what you read and what not. Regarding the video-topic titels they stand out so these are easily recognisable.

We will look into the request so see if we can adjust the 'shown topic updates on the frontpage' to certain specification however our website has other bugs that require more urgent attention.
