In week 43 of 2020, an Antonov An-12 came again to Eindhoven after a long time. In the past, these Antonov’s visited Eindhoven more often, but that was already a few years ago. Whereas in the past the aircraft regularly came from the Ukrainian company CAVOK from Kiev, this time it was an Antonov An-12 from Rubystar Airways from Minsk in Belarus. It is the first visit of an Antonov An-12 from Rubystar Airways which lands on the bottom of Eindhoven. Yet the airline is no stranger to this airport, because in June 2018 and May 2019 Eindhoven already welcomed an Ilyushin Il-76TD from this airline. Rubystar Airways is a small airline and specializes in the transportation of air cargo, as the company only owns cargo planes. Rubystar Airways was founded in 2000 as an air cargo transportation sales agency and is located at Minsk national Airport in Belarus. In the early years, the company did not have any aircraft, as it was not until 2008 that Rubystar received its first Antonov An-12 transport aircraft. The Antonov An-12 is an aircraft that originated in the Soviet Union. The aircraft was then developed for the Soviet Air Force for the tactical transport role. At the time, the An-12 was seen as the Russian counterpart of the American C-130 Hercules. With the reception of the An-12, Rubystar Airways has developed from a sales agency into a real cargo airline. Nowadays the company owns more types for transporting cargo. Rubystar Airways operates a total of five Antonov An-12BK, two Ilyushin Il-76TD and a single Boeing B747-400 BCF. For the fans at Eindhoven it remains a beautiful sight every time when a smoking Antonov An-12 is approaching the runway.
