Detecting airborne targets and vectoring friendly aircraft to intercept, that is the task of this rare Airborne Early Warning and Control System (AWACS). In the past we have already welcomed the giant E-3 Sentry, but the French navy also has a smaller but equally capable aircraft that performs this function to use aboard its carrier, the E-2C Hawkeye.
This modernized twin turboprop with enormous radar dome on top of the fuselage helps protecting the fleet from threats and assists others to perform their missions. The French Hawkeye that is coming to Sanicole is part of 4 flotille based at Lorient. While this unit does not have tiger in its crest, it retained its tiger heritage thanks to operations from the French carrier Clemenceau, which had a tiger in its logo.
Don’t miss the premiere of this very rare aircraft at Sanicole in September 2021.
...not much chance this Grumman appearing in a static display at Sanicole Hechtel Leopoldsburg/Beverlo.
Runway is at most 600 metres.
So it is at least a "fly over".
In the recent past French Hawkeyes did fly at La Ferte Alais airshows.
