[3rd video added, medical company C/6-101] 101st Combat Aviation Brigade in the Port of Rotterdam

Post by Redskin301 »

Until the end of April, the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB), named “Wings of Destiny”, will move with 35 helicopters back to the United States via the Netherlands. In addition to Blackhawk helicopters (UH-60 and HH-60), also Chinook transport helicopters (CH-47) and Apache attack helicopters (AH-64) will move from Eindhoven Air Base to the port of Rotterdam. Next to the helicopters also 1,200 vehicles and containers will be transported mainly by road to the port. The current helicopters is only a part of the total number of helicopters of the 101st CAB, the largest part has already been shipped in Greece. 101st CAB is part of the 101st Airborne Division which is famous in the Netherlands due to its role during the liberation of Eindhoven in September 1944. This division of the United States Army is also known from the TV series "Band of Brothers". The Division is know under the name "Screaming Eagles".

The Charlie Company 6th Battalion 101 Aviation is the Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) unit of the 101st Airborne Division. The history of the unit started with the history of the 542nd Medical Company; therefore this number is nowadays still visible in the badge of the unit. The 542nd Medical Company was constituted on April 3, 1944, as the 542nd Clearing Company and was re-designated as a Regular Army Separate Medical Clearing Company in 1951. The 542 served in Korea from 1951 until the establishment of the DMZ. During the Vietnam War the unit moved from Korea and served gallantly until its inactivation in 1970. In 1995, elements of the 377th Medical Company (Air Ambulance) (AA) located at Camp Page, Korea became the 542nd Medical Company (AA), serving as "DMZ DUSTOFF". In 2005, the unit moved to Fort Campbell, in Kentucky as part of the Army Aviation Transformation in the United States Army. The 542nd became the MEDEVAC Company of the newly transformed 6th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment and began its "Rendezvous With Destiny" as part of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) under the name "Shadow Dustoff". Nowadays the C/6-101 AVN is equipped with the HH-60M Blackhawk in the MEDEVAC role. The helicopters are recognizable on the medical red cross on the helicopters.
