During a short visit to the base on January 16 1978 I discovered even four visitors: MIR5 BA02 and BA27 and two WGAF F104G from Norvenich 20+57 AND 21+81...

May 30 1978 a sq-rotation with Ronaf F5's was going on, so I went tot Gilze again to see and shoot of course these always interesting Norwegian hardware. The rotation had started the 23rd with also a C130 10954 (Husky86) in UN outfit.
According flightplans at NieuwMilligen there were a lot of German CH53 visiting the base also on the 23rd: 8489,8507,8472, 8482, 8483,8476!
The Norwegians were not very lucky with two of their F5's the 565 and 224 suffered serious malfunctions, the 224 stayed at Gilze for a long time after the rest went home.

1978 was a special year for the KLu, celebration of their 65 anniversary. A large airshow was given at Deelen airfield. Especially for this occasion was that 316sq formed NF5 aerobatic team called HIKE4. Two of the aircraft were on the same flightline when the Norwegians were there on May 30. Together with a normal 316sq NF5 K-3065 it was e very colouful sight!

In autumn 1979 a very rare visit of the PortAF with two C212 and two T38! The Talons still wearing there FMS serial, the 10868 was reserialled to 2603 later, the 10915 to 2606.
Still searching for the exact date forgot to write down, who can help?

Before leaving the 7ties for the 8ties there should be a remark be made about some aircraft I almost saw every day and therefore never wrote down…:
The Hunter MK4 N-135 was even flying in the tropics long time ago in Papua New Guinea, now being an instructional airframe behind the fire brigade buildings. Very surprised I saw he had the tail of the Mk6 N-290, this reg was only to be seen on the right side. Fortunately I took it in 1973..
RT-33 M-103: the last time I saw it alive at Gilze was 2-5-1972 parked in the hangar near the cross-servicing. The next day it was stored in the so-called scrap hangar. When it was turned into real scrap is unknown but I found the remains on a dispersal at the DVM area in1973..
AT16 B-177 so well-known toned downed Harvard being displayed in the DVM area for many years. But never took a picture there. Before this location I saw it at Leeuwarden in 1969 up to 1975. Last time I noted IT at Gilze was 3-1988 and was moved to Woensdrecht later on. Now being displayed in yellow again as B-77

Hi Gerrit,

Will check my records, and photo-negatives, for the date of those Portuguese visitors.

FYI; the Harvard, on display near the "DVM headquarters" was never in a toned down colourscheme. It was all painted all yellow after refurbishment at the "Bergingsdienst". The official presentation was kind a funny/strange. The DVM commander found the main entrance of the office blocked with B-177 on his doorstep. Have photo's of that.

Regards,

Benno

Thanks for your message and you are right of course: I remember it very clear it was yellow when I saw it at DVM. So I was looking for that shot in my collection but it was not there. After being withdrawn from base flight duty Leeuwarden it stayed there in ylo. June 72 it was camo for decoy reasons. Dec 21 1978 it was transported by road to EHGR. When did the colour change to yellow again?
