Hmz. Hier wordt dus gesuggereerd dan een SBS iets anders is als genoemde dongel. Whats the difference?

Dan hebben de makers van de software mij iets gezegd wat niet klopt.
De R820T geeft geen nuttige raw data voor mlat maar je kan natuurlijk wel mlat gebruiken en requests doen.
Ze werken momenteel aan dit probleem.

@B767:

De Kinetic SBS ontvangers zijn veel geavenceerder en hebben meer functies.

I would go for the R820T because it will be useable to provide raw Mlat data soon.
You can already use it to receive all Mode-S/ADS-B signals.
Later, you could upgrade to an SBS or Beast.

I am currently testing the test version of PlanePlotter that should make the raw data of the R820T dongle useable for Mlat.

I will keep updated.

So a little resume:
The cheapest receiver R820T is at this time not useable for providing Mlat data, although it can receive and share Mode-S/ADS-B data but you won't act as a suitable ground station for Mlat with it. You still can do Mlat requets and see Mlat aircraft.
The creators of PlanePlotter are working on a new version of PlanePlotter that makes the R820T data useable for Mlat.
I contacted them and they send me an installation file for testing the beta version of the new PlanePlotter version.
On my Windows 7 pc, the R820T wasn't able to provide Mlat data but on my Vista laptop it was able to do it well.
They are working on this and soon the R820T dongle will be useable for sharing Mlat data!

You can already buy a R820T Dongle is you will receive all aircraft with Mode-S & ADS-B transponder with it.
Mlat will work, but you will depend on the Mlat data of other users because the R820T can't provide useable Mlat data at this time.
This will be fixed soon as said above.
In Belgium we need more users for PlanePlotter to make Mlat work better.
Later on, you can upgrade to a better receiver like Beast and SBS.

Tada!! As of this afternoon a new version of PlanePlotter was released which works in combination with the Dump1090 program. This combination provides the long anticipated MLAT RAW data functionality of the cheap RTL dongles. I've got it working so I hope others will join also quikly as the expectation is that this program will increase the amount of plots dramatically!

All information can be found at http://www.fightercontrol.co.uk/forum/v ... 42#p608242. Direct link to the information of Dump1090: http://planeplotter.pbworks.com/w/page/ ... 3/Dump1090. New version of PP: http://www.planeplotter.com/#download.

Good luck!

I think more and more people are joining planeplotter. It is a joy to use it! Hopefully also some Belgians will join.

Sure! Imo it's a very good 'tool' for spotting military aircraft.
