After the debacle of Foreign Secretary Annalena Baerbock at Abu Dhabi en route to Australia the deathblow has been given for the A.340-313 flleet. Problems with the flaps led to the return to Abu Dhabi after three minutes of flight and the pilot deposited some 80 tons of fuel in the air to reduce the landingweight.
On the second attempt today the A.340 had to return again after fifteen minutes of flight. The problem was the same as on the day before. Baerbock cancelled the whole trip after this second try.
16+01 was on heavy maintenance at LHT Hamburg until late-April and should have flown until the end of 2024. It was planned to keep it by 2./FBS BMVg as a spare for another 17 months for the A.350-900 fleet. 16+02 was planned to be taken out of service at the end of September 2023. Both will now be written from use in the next few weeks.
