It looks like a number of nozzles of the afterburner spray ring are not working. only the lower ones.

Might be a new feature to reduce fuel consumption (And might be the answer to the question too.)

Question to the witnesses: was the flame 'wobbling' (like a MiG-21 flame) or did it stay in the lower part of the exhaust?

You could send the picture to PW, with the question 'is this normal?'

EDIT: I wrote GE instead of PW. (Although GE is probably more interested in malfunctioning PW pics )

About the feature to reduce fuel consumption you might be on the mark..........perhaps it is a different way of staging the afterburner ( lower half might be selected if only 50% afterburner is requiered.

I guess GE would love the PW malfunction Pics

If anyone has the correct answer i like to hear it.
