This is semi-confirmed here: http://www.marine.nl/nieuws/evenementen ... a/schepen/Rockville wrote:There also the rumour that the ship will be present during the Navy Days in Den Helder, July 11-14.
Reminds me of the story I heard about the exercise Brilliant Mariner a few years ago..... The states bring their own tent nowadays, I think.Ramses2 wrote:I checked the USS Elrod but there is no Seahawk visible ,only a big blue tent.

You're quite right. Most naval vessels carry a tent, wich covers the flightdeck. As the inside space on board is not sufficient to receive great numbers of persons for RPC's aso, these festivities are held on the flighdeck. The tents in most of the navies are white, ivo summerconditions.aviodromefriend wrote: Reminds me of the story I heard about the exercise Brilliant Mariner a few years ago..... Since the withdraw of the Sea Sprite there hasn’t been any chopper stationed on the Elrod any more... The hangars are too small to fit a hawk according to a crewmember last Sunday at Zeebrugge.Ramses2 wrote:I checked the USS Elrod but there is no Seahawk visible ,only a big blue
tent.I placed a picture on flickr (see link below if you want to see it)

I don't think there is any discussion if this ship can carry a Sea Sprite, Thijs. When the States were flying Sea Sprites they used it from this ship, as a crewmember told one of the forummembers. The discussion is: can it carry a Sea Hawk?Thijs wrote:this type is also in use by the Polish Navy, and guess which chopper they have aquired for ship duties...the Sea Sprite.
Now even that is not the discussion, the discussion is are there any Seahawks onboard and if so, what are the serials...aviodromefriend wrote:The discussion is: can it carry a Sea Hawk?
As the crewmember told, it can't carry a Seahawk. In my opinion the discussion then can't reach the status of which Seahawk is onboard. For me the crewmember made it clear at Zeebrugge there won't be one onboard.Melchior Timmers wrote:Now even that is not the discussion, the discussion is are there any Seahawks onboard and if so, what are the serials...
The Elrod is actually a long-hull (FG-55)... So the knowledge of the crewmember is not very high I suppose...FFG-7 class ships were produced in 445 foot (136 m) "short-hull" (Flight I)and 455 foot (139 m) "long-hull" (Flight III)variants. The long-hull ships (FFG 8, 28, 29, 32, 33, 36-61) carry the SH-60 Seahawk LAMPS III helicopters, while the short-hull units carry the less-capable SH-2 Seasprite.
