Rebuild of Chinook D-890 -> D-895
In the fleet of the 20 Chinooks CH-47F MYII CAAS helicopters we'll have 6 Chinook CH-47F that have been upgraded to MYII CAAS. Their 'old' registrations are D-890 till D-895.
Do we know the new registrations for these old ones? As 16 new Chinooks have already been delivered we should have already received 'rebuilded' CH-47F in their new version.
Any idea?

It is not really a rebuild, it's the powertrains from the old ones used in the new ones. These should be the D-60x series

A bit more than just the powertrains, I believe. Of each old grey CH-47F, some 2,500 parts are re-used in a new CH-47F in the 60x series. D-601 to D-606 are the 'rebuilds' indeed.

Re: Rebuild of Chinook D-890 -> D-895
Are all 2500 parts from one old F put one on one over to one new F?
Or are 15000 parts from six old Fs used for 6 (or more!?) new Fs?

Re: Rebuild of Chinook D-890 -> D-895
Seems not possible to me, as all MY CAAS are new airframes. Unless someone hold track of every part being reused in which airframe...

It’s a bit like having a heart transplant and then afterwards getting the name of the donor…

Ok so then these six have to be regarded as new built with some used parts hence the new serials probably.

Re: Rebuild of Chinook D-890 -> D-895
I think your right.
Thing is that rebuild/reuse is (a bit) cheaper then fully new builds.
Also I think it's a political thing. The old Fs where only 6 or 7 years old so updating sounds better then replacing.
Eg. the AH!-64E are political sold as update of the D frames. But you could also say they are new with some old parts.
If you say you buy new Es this also gets discussion if we need (new) attack helicopters or should by a other type!

The seem for the Echo's, new airframes, new serials.
Re: Rebuild of Chinook D-890 -> D-895
Agree. Although it might be safe to assume that D-601 & 602 were built using parts retrieved from D-890 & 892. Both were sent to Boeing in the spring of 2019. D-601 & 602 emerged from the factory in late 2020/early 2021.
Whereas D-891, 893, 894 & 895 arrived at Boeing only in April/June 2020. And D-603 - D-606 will be delivered in 2022.
Using parts of the old Fs when (re)building the new ones in the 60x series was cheaper than building completely new ones, but also cheaper than modifying the old Fs to MYII CAAS standard. Hence the decision to reuse (overhauled) parts of the old Fs to build the final 6 Chinooks.
Also the first 14 aircraft (D-472 - 485) were acquired as part of a US Army batch through FMS. While the deal for the other 6 was made directly with Boeing. This also explains the different serial batches.

Re: Rebuild of Chinook D-890 -> D-895
Next question would be: what will happen to the old airframes? Scrap probably? I think it is safe to assume most spotters never saw D-893, 894 and 895......
