Surinam Airways expansion plans

Post by jfaltena »

Surinam Airways plans to lease two Boeing 737-300s from AWAS as it looks to build up its network in the Caribbean and Latin America; planned delivery in March and April 2009.
Speaking during the recent Network Latin America event in Aruba, Surinam Airways commercial VP Clyde Cairo said: "We will start with the 737-300s to build up markets, increase frequencies and add destinations, and then go to 737-700s."

Cairo says: "The plan is to lease a 777-200ER, but if we cannot find it the next best choice is the Airbus A340-300. We want to replace the 747 in October 2009 and are in discussions with lessors today. Surinam Airways would prefer to secure a General Electric-powered 777, as it wants KLM to maintain the aircraft. We plan to lease the aircraft if the price is right and we can get financing for it. Boeing 777s are very difficult to get, but we do have an option on an aircraft."

Waar zou die 777 vandaan moeten komen, want hij zal wel niet gloednieuw zijn.
Enige maatschappij waaraan ik dacht is Alitalia.

Where would that 777 be coming from because he will probably not be brand new.
Alitalia? They have -200ER's with GE.

Rumors are getting harder that it will not be a 772 (or 773) but an ex-Air France 340.

Aprox two weeks ago someone from SLM told me they are looking for two 767-300 aircraft to gain ETOPS approval.

Two 767 aircraft also means a daily svs to AMS.

After ETOPS approval both 767 might be replaced by 777 aircraft.

Does this sound logical ?

For the ETOPS part is does, then they can hicke along with KLM to gain and keep the approval; makes sense..
Replacing the 747 by 2 767's is also imaginable.. (moneywise a good step forward)
However the 767 to 777 change doesn't sounds logical to me; how ever I don't think that this will happen soon after an eventually 767 introduction.. (moneywise a step back)

The 777 might be better because the maintanence can be done in AMS, maybe they can save money with that.

KLM has maintenance approval for the 767, 777, 747 and with a small conversion of theire A330 the A340 can be in range as well so this part of the deal is surtain: KLM will perform the maintenance for SLM (no matter what the outcome will be ;))

Jeez, isn't there this tiny little airline that will be offloading two of its six 767's next month?

- Vintage 1989
- First operator from manufacture, never flown by some shady Brasilian or African airline
- very well maintained, mostly in AMS and SNN
- only 100.000+ airframe hours
- easlily convertible to operate with all sorts of business, economy plus and economy configurations

Would be great, wouldn't it?

Is this a suggestion or serious?

Neither a suggestion nor anything serious. Just some fun facts. 8)

But I must admit it's pretty easy to start a rumor this way.
