I've heard rumors that Wittmund is still closed due to repairs not finished.

Anybody who can confirm or deny this.

Thanks in advance,

Hello,

Who can confirm that all (9) swiss hornets have arrived. And is it correct that there are still a few phantoms at Jever? As i believe they would operate out of Jever till 31st of July.

Only J-5009/5232/5236/5237 arrived so far. I heard another 4-5 Hornets will arrive next week.

Hi,

On Tuesday 28.07.09 an F/A-18 from the current det. had an AIM-9 explode shorlty after departing the launch rail. No one hurt but currently live firing is suspended pending an investigation. See here:

Other F/A-18 operations here are continuing judging by recent pictures.

Hi all,

I'm planning to be in the neighbourhood of Wittmundhafen (hoping to enjoy seeing, hearing and smelling those Phantastic Spooks before they are gone) around friday 21 august and I am looking for some information about the activity there.
Is friday a normal operational day? Can anyone give me an indication of the usual operational hours of the base? I assume there is little to no flying activity during weekends? Any info is very much appreciated!

The German version says:
Nach erfolgreichem Lösen der Lenkwaffe von der Waffenstation zerlegte sich die Lenkwaffe Sekundenbruchteile später in der Nähe der F/A-18 Hornet und die Teile fielen ins Meer.

So I would not say "explode", but rather "disintegrate".

Gerard

German mil.bases (usually) aren't flying a lot on fridays. You can expect some missions to be flown in the morning, but none during the afternoon.

All German military bases close at 12:00hrs on Fridays. After that there will be no activity anymore until the next Monday. So maybe should reconsider your scheduled visit on Friday :!:
