I have an old Matchbox scale model kit of a Phantom before RWR modification, still waiting to be built:
I would like to make it a Wildenrath based one, rather than using the included 6 or 41 Sqn decals, so, and this might be a long shot, does anyone of you have pictures of a RAF Wildenrath based Phantom (19 or 92 Squadron) without the RWR modification (the rectangular housing on top of the fin) and in the tactical green/grey colour scheme?
Mind you: I don't even know for sure whether there were any such Phantoms at all!
Cheers,
Rob

Re: REQ: RAF Wildenrath based Phantoms WITHOUT RWR modification
hi
sorry can't help you out. But I know for sure that the Wildenrath Phantoms flew in tactical camoflage and without rwr on the fin.
I'm sure Gunther Grondstein has some pictures of those beauties on the internet, if you do a search I am sure you will find them.
Regards
Frank

Re: REQ: RAF Wildenrath based Phantoms WITHOUT RWR modification
Thanks a lot, guys, that was more than I expected! But, I have to confess: when I saw the 'Q'-coded Phantom Peter pointed out, a small bell in the back of my head started ringing and I dug into my slide collection... Guess what: I appeared to have slides of RAF-Wildenrath-based-Phantoms-without-RWR-housing-and-in-tactical-green/grey-scheme myself! Well, what do you know, these slides were taken over 25 years ago...
Here's a small sequence, involving XV467/Q, 92 Sqn:
Taken at RAF Wildenrath, date unknown
Leeuwarden, August 1982
RAF Wildenrath, July 2 1984
RAF Mildenhall, May 24 1986, finally fitted with RWR-housing!
Lesson learnt: check before asking !
Cheers,
Rob
