I have never been to Koksijde and I plan on going on the 7th. Somebody told me that the crowd line here is very far away from the runway and you need 800mm to shoot on the runway.
Can anyone confirm or deny this? Additionally, can someone mark the location where the crowd line is on a photograph or google maps?

I like to be prepared ;-)

The crowd is very far away, but to shoot the runway, even more useful than a big lens would be something to cut the grass and weeds etc between you and the aforementioned stretch of concrete. Realistically, don't expect to shoot anything that's on the ground.

Or in the air, since the crowd will be facing the sun all day long...

They can not do it on the other side of the runway due to the airfield layout, parking, entrances, ...

So what are the options for photography during the airshow? Static only?

Statics in the morning end the rest of the day in the landing? Is it possible (depending on how they fly) to be at the landing and take good pics with 300mm?

Please have a look at http://www.sgkoksijde.be and you will see that Koksijde is the best base in Belgium (and surroundings) to take pictures from outside the fence. You can take landing shots from both sides of the runway, taxishots from both sides, what can you ask more? During the show itself the road that passes the beginning of RWY11 is always closed, at the other side, previous years it was accesible by foot, I don't know how they will do it this year. For arrivals and departures, perfect pictures can be taken from outside the fence, and during previous editions all roads were accesible

And for the displays of the teams, I thought that the area around the soccer field looks promising.

According to a source on UKAR, an Italian Typhoon has been confirmed for the static.

Can anyone tell me if teh car parking is off the base please.

I ask as I would like to do the static in teh morning, and then to be outside the base for the flying displays (due to the sun position), but I would like to leave my car in one place and just be able to walk to the location for the flying.
