I know this might be on a pretty short notice, but I will be in Bangkok on February 29th and March 1st. Then I will be away for two days, and back at Bangkok on March 4th and 5th (the latter not the entire day). I am free those days and I would very much like to spend the free time I have to do plane spotting around BKK. Now I read about some places, but it would be great not to have to do this alone.
So, my question:
Are there some spotters around in Bangkok during the time of my stay that are familiar with the place and would care to show me around? I am absolutely not familiar with the place (apart from some information I read on this forum) and I am seriously wondering what the options are when the aircraft are using the 01 runways.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.
Tom
Anyone spotting at BKK on 29-Feb, 1-Mar, 4-Mar, 5-Mar-2012?

With the recent attempted bomb attacks in Bangkok, discressoin is advised.
BKK should be on runway 19.If that is the case, the Queen's Garden Hotel is your best bet for spotting.
Landside in the terminal is totally useless.

I forgot about that one. Unfortunately for me the attempts took place after I planned everything. I hope I can still do something, though, or I should start working on a backup plan...Le Addeur noir wrote:With the recent attempted bomb attacks in Bangkok, discressoin is advised.
I heard about the hotel. Is the one I will be staying in + I informed them I am a spotter. That should no harm my chances. Still puzzling: I heard about using RWY19R for departures and 19L for landings, and then a switch at about 11am. In that case the hotel does not seem to be too good (at least not till 11am). Is this something typical for BKK, or just a coincidence that this happens.Le Addeur noir wrote:BKK should be on runway 19.If that is the case, the Queen's Garden Hotel is your best bet for spotting.
Yes. I noticed that when I passed through BKK a first time (2010). Pity, but with a good alternative outside the airport ... no problem.Le Addeur noir wrote:Landside in the terminal is totally useless.
Well, thank you for the replies.
But any further assistance "on-site" would still be greatly appreciated, if available.
