Some of the Sky-High photos i took this month here above my house in Purmerend.
( note: photos are a bit cropped and i use a 100/400mm with 2,0 converter.)
If anyone knows the best settings to make this kind of photos better please contact me by mail.
I use the Canon 300D rebel with voightlander 100/400mm 4,5 - 6,7 and 2,0 converter.

My tips;
Get rid of the 2.0 converter and use max 1.4
ISO @ 100
Underexpose at least one stop
Choose F/ 5.6 with these kind of photos
Switch IS on 2
Use something ( I use the roof from my van ) to lean on to hold your lens steady, aim / pan at the airplane at the same speed.
Shoot 20 shots from one plane and select the sharpest picture.

Hola NustR,

Using F/5.6 will not work when the is works on F6.7 at 400mm. And I do not think this lens operates whit IS. I agree to get rid of the 2x converter, but I do not think a 1,4x is a lot better whit this Voightlander... It's not the Canon 100-400 IS, but that one is not to good with the 1,4x either.

Marcel

In that case, get rid of all converters and crop in photoshop
Even with the bloody sharp and good 500mm you loose a lot of quality with converters
I really thought it was the Canon mondaymornig zoom lens :drinking:

Hi Nusty,

Next time i will use your tips as you mentioned above.
For the Air Berlin photo and the Beluga i used the fence in my garden but with the 2,0 extender.
Next time i won't use this anymore only the 400mm.
The United was the sharpest one, i made 12 pictures from the N120UA.
The Singapore T7 was hand made no fence or tripod.

Thanks for you tips.

Last thursday; PIA 773 and Air China A332 crossing. A lot of backlight and a thin cloud layer ruin the picture

The C5 and the C-17's are awesome, I see them every day. Finally they're captured good! Because I'm not getting close with 270mm..
Are these guys heading for Germany, or are they on a more Middle-eastern route? Or is their destination unknown?

Regards,
Jeffrey.
